Owl Cam 2007 Carmel Middle School Habitat Program, CSUMB and UC Hastings Reserve

In late January 2007, we restored the owl box. In mid-March 2007, we saw a pair in the box and 3 eggs were present on March 27. At 11:40 am that day, in a cold storm with sleet and rain and wind gusts to 40 mph, the incubating owl left. An owl has been returning (click here), but eggs appear to have been abandonded as of 3/30/07.
You can also download a movie of the last 15 minutes. You will need Quicktime to view the movie; you can find this software free on the web; just Google "Quicktime Downloads".
We are archiving the images at a UC Natural Reserve website .

In 2004, we recorded the entire nesting cycle; from eggs to young birds. Click here to go to these archived movies from 2004. For more information on Barn Owls in general, click here. For plans to build your own owl box that is very similar to this one, click here. For our particular box, here are more details.
