Annie Alexander: As Told By Barbara Stein in "On Her Own Terms"

With help from Helen Johnson, the Friends of Hopkins Marine Lab, the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, and the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, Barbara Stein was able to visit and give two talks on her new book on Annie Alexander. Annie Alexander founded the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and many of the graduate students at Hasting have benefited from the endowments she set up to support field research. Barbara, who up until a couple of years ago was an Associate Curator in the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology (MVZ) in Berkeley, gave a talk on Tuesday, November 17 at the Hopkins Marine Station. Dr. Joe Wible was our host, and he provided a great tour of his library, and the station. An amazing place. Then, the next day, Barbara presented a talk at the Pacific Grove Museum. Steve Bailey and Paul Finnegan were our hosts at PGMNH.. Steve Bailey also has connections to MVZ, having been a graduate there back in the early 1970s. This talk was taped and will be part of the new graduate course at UCB-MVZ on the history of the Museum.

An exhibit on Barbara's book is in place at the PGMNH through February of 2003. It will then be moved to the Biology Library at UC Berkeley and will be available each year at the Berkeley Cal Day each spring.
