Species List
    Butterflies have been studied by several people over the years. First, Jean Linsdale collected insects and various entomologists reviewed them for names and lists were compiled in the 1940s. For this longer species list, as ammended by Dr. Jerry Powell, click here.

Annual Butterfly Count
     Since 1998, Dr. Jerry Powell has been conducting an annual butterfly count here at Hastings. The actual count is done in a circle on a map that includes a larger area than just Hastings and is a part of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) count. In 2005, Dr. Powell summarized these counts for Hastings. For the annual butterfly count summary for that period of years, click here (Excel version). These counts may included counts made near Chew's ridge. In 2008, Dr. Powell included counts of buterflies east of Hastings in the Paloma Creek drainage, an area that is also in the circle on the map provided by NABA as the area for the annual count.
